Territory

Villacidro: Muru MannuSan Silvano was the homeland where I, like the wild forest animals and the birds in the sky, felt truly at home, and being faraway from its forests has always weighed heavily upon me. (Giuseppe Dessì - San Silvano)

All of Dessì’s work is filled with references to places at Parte d’Ispi, its mountains, rocks, streams, waterfalls, meadows, the animals that inhabit the forests and countryside, its trees: olive, almond, cherry, pine…witnesses to the history of the places and their men, emblem and symbol of civilisation and life.

All of which is in Parte d’Ispi!

The territory of the park is primarily located in the area of the Linas Marganai Massif, ancient old mountains dating back to Palaeozoic times from more or less between 300 and 600 million years ago.

So it would not be wrong to say that the most ancient rocks in Italy and some of the most ancient in Europe can be found here. Parco Dessì is not only about mountains, planes and hills. Its territory extends from the Medio Campidano plane to the Linas-Marganai Mountains and to the Southestern sea, comprising the extremely immense Arburese coast that laps “il golfo di Oristano” and the beaches and cliffs of Buggerru, confining Iglesiente.

Arbus: Piscinas beach and sand dunesThe territories variety of forms render the park a microcosm of varied natural environments rich in flora and fauna. The landscapes vary: granite walls, waterfalls and woods, and just a few kilometres away beaches and cliffs, Juniper covered dunes and vast pine forests. The woods and countryside are inhabited by numerous species of animals including Sardinian dear and muoflon as well as rare examples of golden eagles.
