The Parco Storico Culturale Giuseppe Dessì is devoted to the cultural and national movement which, in the nine hundreds, took on the idea of the institution of literary parks, re-evaluating the works of the most important authors from Italian literature, putting narrations into context via the individualization of journeys and evocative places cited by the writers.
The work of the Villacidro town council in these years in favour of the “National literary prize” dedicated to the writer, has created a favourable condition of recognition of the values of identity that the author’s works were able to transfer, creating a strong sense of belonging in local communities.
The constitution of the re-grouping of the six local governments, (Villacidro, Guspini, Arbus, San Gavino, Buggerru and Fluminimaggiore), took place at the end of 2001 motivated by the participation in a competition run by The Regione Sardegna to request financing for the first Parco Culturale project and it has further strengthened in recent years with collaboration between town councils and precise agreements for the co-ordinated and synergetic management of the patrimony’s resources.
