The idea of the Parco Culturale (cultural park), came about after assessing, via the work of the writer Giuseppe Dessì, the naturalistic and environmental patrimony of Villacidro and the towns of the Linas area, also mentioned in the writer’s work.
The territory of "Parco Culturale Giuseppe Dessì" embraces the provinces of Medio Campidano and Iglesias-Carbonia, in the South West of Sardinia.
The area, entitled "Parte d’Ispi" by the writer in his work, presents itself as a unique specimen inside of which multiple and single realities coexist.
The imaginary poems move amongst the rich environmental patrimony, culture, traditions, history and prehistory that render the island a charming and at moments mysterious world: those places, decidedly imaginary, enriched by literary "magic" are all visitable in he towns at the park: Villacidro, Guspini, Arbus, Buggerru, Fluminimaggiore and San Gavino.
The institutional history of dates and events intertwines with the history of the characters from his books: farmers, shepherds, miners, landlords, entrepreneurs; men, women and children belonging to a land of traditions and history dating from the distant past. In his work, Dessi knew exactly how to capture and present a Sardinia, that was not wrapped up in the myth of the wild island, but immersed in history; also using this approach, his master piece entitled Paese d’ombre, winner of the "Premio Strega", 1972.
A trip to Villacidro, birth place of the writer and other realities narrated in his books, following the very same itinerary included in his work the visitor is given a key to out of the ordinary, immensely charming and surprising literature that talks about a part of Sardinia that conserves a rich historical, cultural and environmental patrimony, from the mountains to the sea, from the mines to the fields.
