The spice paths

Arbus: juniper in the Costa Verde sand dunesTrees, bushes, wild herbs, wild fruit, colours, perfumes, all in Dessì’s works, they have the taste and colour of nature and the places par excellence: Norbio, Parte d’Ispi, Sardinia… the Linas massif… Walking through the woods of Parte d’Ispi, means to discover and savour nature through its liveliest colours and intense perfumes and flavours.

Ancient woods and millenary trees create unique landscapes rich in charm: oak, holm-oak, yew, carob, olive, heather, juniper, wild herbs, helichrysum, thyme, seraph rose, cistus, euphorbia, phyllirea, Pistacea Lentiscum, Spartium junceum shrub, wild fennel, borage, wild thistle, chicory, asparagus, river mint, rosemary and many more.

From the woods and the countryside, herbs and wild fruit enter the houses and perfume the environment or flavour dishes. Cuisine and popular local medicine, the ancient art of dying and craftsmanship boast ancient traditions based on simple ingredients and the use of leaves, flowers and fruits.

AsfodeloThe wide variety of species available and used by man for different purposes, makes the Linas Mountains a true outdoor herbalist’s. For those who desire, it is possible to discover the wonderful medical plants of the mountains of Parte d’I spi, via routes specially studied and planned during the flowering and harvesting period, which are accompanied by short courses on the use of herbs in popular medicine or in the art of infusions, still in use today.

The most famous endemic: Helichrysum of Mount LinasOut of all the species, the queen is Helichrysum montelinasanum, endemism present in the Linas massif only, spotted for the first time by the Swiss botanist Emil Schmid (1933). It has the form of a small shrub bush, 5 to 20 cm high; its only flower is white in colour or, rarely, even pink. It is especially visible, isolated in rough rock crevices.
