The territory of Guspini is divided into the metalliferous relieves of Iglesiente and the mountains and the spreads across the planes of Campidano along the Montevecchio river, until the area of the San Giovanni pond that laps the southern confines of the province of Oristano. The variety of flora and fauna species are different.
Dense woods in the mountains provide a quantity of mushrooms and random fruit of various types and dense Mediterranean shrub allows us to see the main natural species present in Sardinia.
One must not miss out on the chance to go on splendid relaxing walks: some sites are easily reached and practicable, such as the areas of the Mannu Mountains, of Su Montixeddu and the public park of Gentilis.
In the Montevecchio area, to the captivating and natural beauty of its places one can add the impressiveness and charm of the mining structures that characterize it.
Once a populated noisy built up area, Montevecchio now makes space, with its silence and its welcoming woods, for rich fauna that hosts resident animals: foxes, wild boars, hares, and numerous birds.
Montevecchio is also an area where Sardinian dear repopulate and hosts a large number of species that can be spotted in the evening when they leave the woods in search of water.
Amongst the rarities the fauna provides, there is also the pink flamingo, which lives on the banks of the San Giovanni pond.
Every year colonies of “gente rossa” (pink folk) lay nests and spend the winter in the background of the ancient ruins of the city of Neapolis.
