Sa Potecarìa is the ancient name in Sardinian of the chemist and this small museum, born from the passion of the pharmacist Dr. Ignazio Fanni, which tells most of the history.
Dr. Fanni, besides conserving ancient pharmaceutical equipment belonging to the family, also increased this treasure with interesting purchases from all over the world.
The original nucleus of the collection, gathered in four small locations near the modern chemist, come from the old “potecarìa villacidrese” (chemist) of the Mancosu family, purchased in1928 by the Fanni family.
Small, yet of great cultural interest, the museum tells us, via its generous collection of books, apparatus and various objects, what was the activity of the pharmacist before the revolution broke out in the modern industrial sector. These mysterious objects are testaments of a by gone past, in which the pharmacist, in his minute laboratory, used raw materials (Epsom salts, caster oil, saccharose...) purchased and preserved in large wooden, glass and ceramic containers, he personally saw to the packaging of the medicines.
Author’s words
"…He remained like that for a while, then he pulled himself together and headed towards the chemist that was still open. [...] Regardless of the fact that the pharmacist did not ask him any questions, he felt the need to tell him that the medicine was for a poor soul not covered by the local government." (Giuseppe Dessì - Il Disertore)
