Villacidro: Castangias Park

The Castangias valley could be considered as Villacidro place of origin: it is from here in fact that the Fluminera River originates, the town has expanded along its banks, protected by the steep slopes of Mount Omo and Mount Cuccureddu.

The richness of the water has always characterized the area of the park where, during the years between 1928 and 1932, an aqueduct was built that gathered the waters from several sources to be distributed to the town. The structures of the aqueduct, realized in the same style as the small Tuscan villas, gave an elegant and refined air to the area. The park was a destination for endless walks for the locals that chose Villacidro as their main holiday resort.

From this park one can get to the Coxinas plateau and, after just a short walk, reach impressive panoramic spots and admire the mountains that embrace the town in their entire splendor.

Author’s words

"Who is that galloping along the plateau, behind the calves, with a face that is never hard? It is my father. It is he who carries me on his saddle up to the chestnut tree where there is a spring so dark and frozen that the horse on lowering its neck hardly touched it. The hunter in green velvet knows of the water from winds of thyme and wild countryside…" (Giuseppe Dessì - San Silvano).
