Walking along the streets of San Gavino one catches sight of specific types of houses and architecture.
Ancient “case campidanesi” can still be seen, normally on one floor plus attic, having two courtyards, one in front with a well and “lollas” (arches) and the other at the back with an oven, small vegetable garden and animals.
The raw material used to build the houses was unbaked brick, still visible today in many époque houses. Naturally the dimension and articulation of space of each house were linked to the family’s economic position.
Amongst the most famous and most beautiful houses, property of rich families, the houses Dona Maxima, which present day, hosts the ethnographic museum, and Ettorina and Eulalia Mulasare, are visible and well preserved.
The latter, located centrally along via Trento, has two floors, a refined facade and is elegantly enriched with liberty style features.
