The mine and the village of Planu Sartu were established around the 1860s after the discovery of important lead and zinc seams of present day Buggerru. In 1867 the village Planu Sartu reached 2000 inhabitants comparable to that of Buggerru.
Present day the village has been completely abandoned and finds itself amongst the Mediterranean shrub in the vicinity of the enormous outdoor pit that represented the work place for its inhabitants.
The mine opening, the impressive surrounding landscape, contained between mountain and sea, give the old ruins a particular charm.
