In 1924, in the Harold yard, located in the Is Animas valley, despite the metal crisis, the digging of the Gal pit was initiated. Next to the pit, as well as the brick castle, a wench room was built and in the square, the premises of the workshops and the forges.
With the discontinuation of rail transport, a cement hopper was built in 1948 in the vicinity of the pit, for loading the material onto lorries, to then be taken to the Pireddu and Naracauli washeries.
In 2003, the municipality of Arbus started restoration works in order to realise a centre for visitors so as not to forget the historic memory of the places and those who worked there.

The salary was bad like everywhere else, the miners used to provide their own oil to light the tunnels while working and had to purchase everyday essentials from the shops run by the Mining Company that applied prices that were more expensive that those on the mainland."
