Pitzinurri is the only mining village in the Ingurtosu area that had an exclusively housing character; it was created and developed in the first decade of the 1900s in connection with the two villas present in the area Villa Ginestra and Villa Wright, the director’s and vice director’s residences.
The buildings reflect the architectural characteristics typical of nearby mining centres, with a simple structure, a rectangular plan, either diagonal or L shaped.
Once under the municipality of Arbus, the area and the nearby lake have gained from the addition of nature paths, the restoration of the Pitzinurri dig, the re-utilization of the old buildings as a Book shop and visitor’s center, refreshment bar, garaging and offices. The area comprises the entrance to the Is Animas valley and its mining yards.
Author's words
"In the background one could admire the countryside made up of sand dunes covered in dense shrubs, and the intense blue of the sea that lightened into a transparent green, clearly defined, beyond which, far away in the distance one could make out the inaccessible horizon." (Giuseppe Dessì - Paese d'Ombre)
