In 1901 the president of the “Gennamari-Ingurtosu e della Pertusola” society, Lord Thomas Alnutt Brassey, initiated the construction of the new hospital that was finalised in 1902 and completed with doctor and pharmacist lodgings in 1907.
After the mine's closure, the structure was abandoned until the municipality of Arbus implemented restoration interventions for it re-use as the “Foresteria Centro di Educazione Ambientale” (Environmental educational centre).
